Applied Psychology and Ergonomics

The course in Applied Psychology and Ergonomics provides students with competencies and methods to design interactive systems oriented to the users’ and operators’ objectives and characteristics.

The research activity is aimed both at the evaluation of existing systems so as to re-modulate them within a user-centred approach, and at designing new systems defined by effective interactions between technical and human, organizational and cultural components.

Research studies mainly focus on the cognitive load evaluation both in everyday and in work activities, and on the detection and reduction of ergonomic risks in working situations, within an interdisciplinary approach where physical, cognitive and organizational aspects of ergonomics are investigated.

 The following projects have been conducted in the latest five years with external financial support:

- ergonomic evaluation of the control room of an underground railway
- innovation of the user-centred design methodologies in the field of telecommunications
- design of home-assistance services for elderly users by means of wireless  technologies
- risk management in healthcare systems (emergency services – surgical teams)
- ergonomic evaluation of a call centre in the field of telecommunications
- comfort of wearable products: shoe design
- human factors and safety in the petrochemical sector
- ergonomics for stress prevention in an Emergency Service
- risk prevention in healthcare systems: cognitive maps
- eco-sustainability and personalization: competitive aspects for communication and technical innovation in the luxury furnishing.
